Why You Shouldn't Leave Your Kids Alone Around Mirrors

My mom had expensive taste so as soon as I was too old for a crib my parents outfitted my room with grand and ornate furniture. It might seem out of place for a kid at that age to have mahogany dressers and a king-sized bed, but it's really not strange at all if you knew my parents. They always treated me like an adult. Even my name, Allanah, had seemed too big for me at that age. Part of my new and exquisite bedroom set was a massive vanity mirror. It was one of those things that were so decadent it bordered on gross. My parents hung the mirror on a wall opposite my bed, and it gave me the creeps. I hated it, but no matter how much I complained my parents refused to take it down. Lest it ruins the decorum of the room. I couldn't even sleep with this mirror staring at me. The night terrors came so frequently my dad eventually found a compromise and hung a sheet over it every night with thumbtacks. This helped me fall asleep, but I still felt uneasy in my own room. The Broadcast

In 1988 an unknown broadcast overtook several UHF stations in the Midwestern United States for six consecutive nights. The broadcast would last for only a few minutes and consisted of white static with a gray silhouette of a person in the center of the screen. The shadowed figure spoke with a an androgynous but deep voice and always spoke in whispers. Those who witnessed the unknown broadcast reported that the figure would make bizarre statements that would influence one person but not another. It’s been confirmed by the witnesses that the figure had said the following: ‘Go to sleep’, ‘Don’t drink the water’, ‘Conceive’, ‘Don’t believe anyone’, ‘Don’t trust anyone’, ‘Save me’, ‘Use the knife’, ‘Bury him’, ‘Burn the evidence’ and ‘Find me’. After the broadcasts hit the airwaves and massive string of criminal activities began manifesting throughout the Midwest: Burglaries, physical and sexual assaults, attempted murder, attempted suicide and arson plagued many towns and cities. Those

Pigment – 227

In 1966 the United States government began experimenting with the possibility of creating super humans using controlled amounts of radiation. Volunteers for the experiment were all members of the United States military; soldiers and their wives. The experiment entailed both the men and the women to receive a small tattoo using special eradiated ink known as ‘Pigment – 227’. After showing no signs of negative side effects from the ink, the volunteers were urged to procreate. The scientists theorized that the radiation would affect the reproductive tissues and pass alone enhanced, superior genes to the fetus. The result were not what had been expected. After a few months 70% of the men were diagnosed with prostrate or testicular cancers and 40% of the women were diagnosed with uterine or became completely infertile after the exposure. The women who were able to conceive children endured particularly difficult, if not completely unnatural pregnancies. The developing fetus’s were no

Apogee Perturbation

In the late nineties, scientists conducted the Distant Snake Experiment. The experiment consisted of putting a one-man-capsule in a distant orbit around Earth. They would be suspended in solitary confinement for two months, logging their mental status and their physical status during that time. However, the experiment was shut down shortly after it was created due to strange complications. The experiment puts a man inside a vessel, then puts that vessel in a 400,000 kilometer orbit around earth. After failing to get any vessels far enough into space their first two attempts, on the third try they had managed to do it. Astronaut Duncan Vanguard was sent into a distant orbit around Earth. While reaching 400,000 kilometers he had full contact with Earth. However, once he had reached his orbit the station would no longer respond to any of his messages from space. No matter what Duncan said while up there, none of the scientists could legally respond. A full orbit would take about a two mon

The Internet’s Out

Thursday morning. I awoke to the sounds of a siren blaring down the road. Great, another accident. The traffic was the last thing I wanted in the morning while going to work. Still, I had another hour before heading off, so I started my morning routine of taking a shower and brushing my teeth before heading downstairs for breakfast where I saw my son, Michael, eating cereal before breakfast. I grabbed a bagel and sat down on the couch, grabbing my iPad to read the news. “Terrorist leader Aamir Hadi has threatened the President!” The same old news… Nothing was “new” about it. All this drama for years between the Middle East and good old America. How long had we been at war? I couldn’t remember. Too long, for sure. All these terrorist attacks, and the President just sends in more and more soldiers, feeding a war without end. Pointless as middle school drama, but with more consequences. Whatever, who needs CNN anyways? Flipping on the TV and putting down my iPad, I noticed more sirens

The Third Eye

Third Eye-Pineal Gland The  pineal gland  (also called the pineal body, epiphysis cerebri, epiphysis or the "third eye") is a small endocrine gland. It produces melatonin, a hormone that affects the modulation of wake/sleep patterns and photoperiodic (seasonal) functions. It is located near to the center of the brain between the two hemispheres, tucked in a groove where the two rounded thalamic bodies join. Unlike much of the rest of the brain, the pineal gland is not isolated from the body by the blood-brain barrier system. It is reddish-gray and about the size of a pea (8 mm in humans). The pineal gland is shaped like a tiny pine cone, hence its name. Pseudoscience Theories While the physiological function of the pineal gland has been unknown until recent times, mystical traditions and esoteric schools have long known this area in the middle of the brain to be the connecting link between the physical and spiritual worlds. Considered the most powerful and highest so

The Tunnel Run

It was 9:30 P.M on a Sunday night and I had only just left work. There was a mountain of paperwork sat at my desk that had to be completed for Monday morning, but I knew that it couldn’t be done. I’d already given up my entire weekend, so it was difficult to find the energy to worry. I had grown bored of my job now anyway, so I didn’t really care what my boss said; I just needed a beer. I wandered out of the office doors, through the car park and made my way down the darkened road. Then like that, I was free. I was 21 now and had reached the age when I believed I knew everything. I had long grown used to living on my own and doing what I pleased, so I assumed I’d eventually just find a new job and be fine. My only regret that night was making the walk home. Seeing as there is only two ways to reach my flat and one of them is a longer trek than the other, I could see no reason for taking the ‘scenic’ route; so I set off along my usual path. The journey home usually consisted of trudgin
